The Girls' Birthmom

The girls that we already love and claim as ours have an incredible heritage.  Their birth mom and birth family are inspiring.  Her name is Taylor and we love her and we haven't even met her in person yet.  She is adventurous and loves the outdoors.  She surfs, snow boards, zip lines, and lives life to the fullest.  She is a doctor and a drummer.  She really does it all!  She is also a twin and she and her twin both were adopted as children.  Their adopted parents had biological children and then when they were older they began fostering/adopting.  Taylor's parents are in their 80s and have incredible relationships with their children.  Taylor and her twin sister both have the life shortening disease, cystic fibrosis.  Taylor was happily married to the love of her life (literally they knew each other as children.)  They were happy and living life.  Taylor became very sick with nausea and vomiting. She had to be taken to the hospital and that's where they determined that she was unexpectedly pregnant.  Due to cystic fibrosis, Taylor takes many medications to manage her illness.  However, the minute she found out she was pregnant she crashed off of the medications as fast as possible instead of a slow weaning process.  She cared for her unborn child and put him/her first.  Although, not ideal since Taylor doesn't feel she has a long life left she and her husband were thrilled with adding to their family and her husband would cross the bridge of single parenting when that day arrived.  However, just weeks later he went for a run and didn't return; he died from cardiac arrest.  Now, our birth mom Taylor had to make the incredibly selfless choice again of putting her child first.  She continued taking care of herself and her pregnancy and discovered she would be receiving not one but two babies!  She was still thrilled but also began to think about the future all while processing the sudden loss of her husband.  She thought of her daughters being raised by a single working mom with a sometimes debilitating disease that unfortunately is going to make it so she leaves this world before her daughters are grown.  She arrived at the decision that she wanted her twin girls to have a mom and a dad.  She wanted them to be someplace where they would be cherished, raised to love God, value education, and love living and experiencing life.  So she made another selfless choice to place her trust in God to help her find that family and then have the faith to put her girls in those arms.  She found us on adoption.com.  She said that she had looked a dozens of families but that something about us just brought her a feeling of peace.  We instantly connected and we are looking forward to a wonderful open adoption.  These girls will know of the love that their mother and their father had for them from the beginning.  Currently, Taylor has chosen to downgrade herself at work to a job she doesn't love but it is safer for the girls.  She also has to receive infusions three times a week for the sake of the girls.  She had a lung transplant and her body is slowing rejecting the lungs.  There are medications she could be taking but she isn't for the sake of her daughters.  We love and respect her more than we can adequately express.  We are humbled by the trust that she is putting in us and pray that we will live up to the responsibility.
