Last Wednesday the Turek Twins as the birthmom and her family lovingly refer to them got their close ups. They couldn't get a better picture because every time the doctor would poke or prod the girls would curl into each other more. They are measuring on the small side and their heart rates were a little elevated. The doctor wasn't concerned and said that the goal is the last week of June or the first week of July for a scheduled c-section. Unfortunately, Taylor (the birth mom) wasn't doing so well. She had to leave the appointment and go see her pulmonologist. She is now going to be on 24/7 oxygen and the level she receives was increased. She had to endure a series of tests and it was determined that her lungs are definitely being rejected by her body. Unfortunately, her white blood count is also extremely low. This means that she will not qualify to be listed for a lung transplant. The doctor then began discussing with her hospice comfort care after the girls are delivered. As you can imagine for a 28 year old that has done nothing but fight her whole life being told that the fight may be over was a devastating piece of news. She went home angry, scared, and sad. We didn't get to hear any of these updates until very late. We were so worried about her and the girls. We knew she had an afternoon ultrasound appointment so of course we had been glued to the phone.
Then Monday she went for more tests and a visit to her internal medicine doctor. It was determined her kidneys are not failing but not performing properly.
Taylor has had lots of rain on her head lately. It seems to continue to pour. We pray for peace and health for all three of these special people.
