Corpus Christi

Tuesday after a day of Matt studying and mainly sleeping to catch up on his week of nights we took off to Corpus Christi. We cashed in our choice privilege points for a free hotel night. We met friends there the next day for a day of touring the USS Lexington and for playing at the beach. It was such a great time EXCEPT for the fact that Joshua is really struggling with fear these days (see Sea World post). We walk in the hotel room and Joshua instantly starts crying. I mean it wasn't a 5 star hotel but I don't think it was tear worthy. He is screaming "car" "home" "please". So, we quickly gather him up to distract with a little walk since we still had about an hour before his bedtime. We were staying beach front so we decided to walk along the beach. It was high tide and Joshua was not digging the loud crashing ocean but found it safer to walk on the other side of Matt and I and the sidewalk through the sand that was right beside all of the hotels. Seriously?! We finally returned to the hotel and Joshua looked around saw his familiar pack-n-play and the noise cancelling fan that we take every time we travel. He said bed, sleep, prayers and turned on his fan himself and knelt down waiting for us to join him. Pitiful and sweet. The next day started out well with a little television and continental breakfast. My boy is usually happy if food is involved (a little scary to me). Then we met up with our friends to tour the USS Lexington and play at the beach. Joshua LOVES boats and planes so this is a no fail plan. Right? As we walk in the boat after paying our 12 bucks a piece Joshua is whimpering. Matt and I really enjoyed the tour but we both took turns finding stairs for Joshua to climb on and comforting him that we were looking for the exit and would be going soon. At one point he started actually shaking. What has happened to my fearless guy? Moms out there, is this just a stage? We eat lunch and fries and ketchup happened so of course Joshua's next smile of the day. Then we took off for the beach. Well he wanted nothing to do with it and as soon as we would put him down he would make a run for it back to the car. I got the idea to bring his stroller down to the beach which was perfect. We had all of our stuff at a covered picnic table which was literally 5 feet from the water. He sat in his stroller for the first 20 minutes watching us all play in the water and sand. Then he began laughing loudly as Matt and his friend threw a frisbee back and forth in the ocean. He called me to help him climb out so he could "go throw plate with dad." He was all smiles the rest of the day but never went too far in the ocean. He certainly loved digging in the sand and putting his toes in the water. Next time maybe?

Waiting on his shorts to dry after dumping his cup during breakfast...yes we were those people at breakfast with that kid. :-)
Beginning to pose for pics
Only one happy guy in this pic- he did like being up high though better than being so little compared to his surroundings

He wore his hat all day which was good because the sun was so bright and hot.
Stairs make him happy and a little friend too.
Love jumping
Locking himself in the brig. We did this for a good 20 minutes while everyone else watched a fighter pilot movie. This was when Joshua started shaking.
Notice the lack of bathing suit? He has one but he didn't want to change and I wasn't going to battle. I'm sure at our next pool date post nap he will be more agreeable to changing clothes. :-)
