Nathan and Joshua were thankfully with Rachel. This was the picture we received! Nathan found two pacifiers and was so proud of himself. We need to get rid of those someday...
It was annoying having to wait so long but this was our view during lunch.
We finally had keys to our new home! We loaded up the van and both cars with everything from the TLF. We had a full load when we came from San Antonio and we have been shopping for home stuff while we waited. We arrived only to discover that we were given the wrong key. It was 6 pm and of course super hot/humid. We have all of the stuff and kids that are going to need to be fed and put to bed soon. We got in touch with someone and unloaded everything in to the driveway. I took the kids home and Matt waited on the contractor so we could key sorted out. Definitely, not as glamorous of a first day as we had hoped.
The next morning we got up bright and early from the TLF and loaded up the rest of our things to head to our new home.
We met my in-laws there for a one day visit. They took a slight detour on their road trip out west.
We found the best food around! I am not one to go on and on about food but seriously we all wanted to lick our plates.
We had to do some shopping for some basics.
And for some not so basics....seriously how did these boys get these chairs? Nani??? :-)
Nani and PopPop had to leave early Saturday morning. We got things organized and waited for our delivery of furniture and stuff to come Monday morning.
I will not spend too much time on this next part. I will say that mostly it was fine BUT some of my stuff was broken, many boxes mislabeled AND the packers decided to repack my entire garage. As in I had everything organized in tupperware containers and they decided to move it all to brown boxes all mixed up. They told me they would repack it to make sure it was secure but I didn't know that meant they would throw keepsakes in with camping. It took me 5 hours to sort through that mess.
In typical Matt and Vanessa style though we had the entire house unpacked and in place by Tuesday including the garage mess. Pictures are up now and it is feeling like home. Matt has been working on his projects as well. He has a sound system up and NO WIRES are showing. He cut holes in the walls, hid the wires, and put up crown molding. I am proud of him even if I was eating chocolate the whole time that holes were being cut. He needs to paint the crown molding now and then he has plans to build cabinets and shelves on either side of our fireplace. This is where the DVDs and all that equipment will go so I am looking forward to the completion of this project.
In other home excitement, the Monday that the movers came we had sewage back up into our toilets, showers, and tubs. It was so gross! Thankfully, DR Horton sent someone out in less than an hour and it was fixed but still! Matt took his board exam the next day so we were a little bit stressed.
Then a week later we hear water dripping and it is leaking from the A.C. We discovered this after it had gotten under some carpet and stained a baseboard. This too will be taken care of but it does leave one feeling a little apprehensive of their BRAND NEW home!
Despite these bumps in the road, I love the home. The kids love the playroom and will entertain themselves for long periods of time just playing and laughing. I have gone for wonderful runs on the sidewalk, on the trails, and by the lake. Matt loves his short and car free commute to and from work. We are making friends and really think we have landed in a good spot.
